Computer Science Initiative

About

We have implemented a computer science pathway model that incorporates both in-class and out-of-class programs, fostering inclusive and holistic programs within our districts. Our model ensures continuity from elementary through high school by offering pre-engineering instruction and facilitating career-connected learning opportunities.

One of our key initiatives involves the development of summer science camps that are specifically designed to cater to the unique needs of diverse populations in rural Clackamas County. These camps provide hands-on experiences and engage students in STEM activities, bolstering their interest and participation in STEM throughout the school year. We recognize the importance of exposing students, who may not typically have access to such opportunities, to potential STEM career paths.

To further support our mission, we have established STEM Collaboratives consisting of STEM/STEAM Partners, community-based organizations, community members, and school staff. These collaboratives meets regularly in each district to discuss and plan current and future community-based strategies, culturally specific programs, and activities targeting underserved populations. By bringing together these stakeholders, we ensure a collective effort in advancing STEM education and fostering equal opportunities for all.

Through our comprehensive approach, we aim to create a model for inclusive STEM education within our districts. By providing diverse and culturally relevant programs, we empower students to explore and pursue STEM fields, opening doors to potential STEM career paths while addressing the specific needs and challenges faced by underserved communities.
